The Ultimate Guide to Agafay Desert Tours from Marrakech
An Agafay desert tour from Marrakech comes in four main shapes, all with hotel pickup. You can choose a half day (quad and camel, about 4 hours, €60), a full evening with sunset ride, Moroccan dinner and live show (4 pm to around 11 pm, €60 to €75), a full pool day (9 am to 7 pm, €120) or two days with a night in a luxury camp (€385). Every one of our packs includes return transfer from your Marrakech hotel, and the drive takes about 40 to 45 minutes. For most first-time visitors, the best value is the Quad + Camel + Dinner show pack at €75 per person: one hour of quad, one hour on a camel to the sunset viewpoint, then dinner under the tent. You confirm with a 20% deposit and can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before. This guide explains how to compare the formats and pick the right one.

What an Agafay desert tour from Marrakech actually is
An Agafay desert tour is an outing of a few hours to two days in the stony desert that starts roughly 30 to 40 km south-west of Marrakech. Agafay is not a sea of sand dunes: it is a landscape of bare hills, plateaus and dry riverbeds in shades of ochre and beige, with the High Atlas Mountains on the horizon when the air is clear.
Because the drive from the city takes about 40 to 45 minutes, you can leave your hotel after lunch, ride a quad or a camel at sunset, have dinner in a tent and still sleep in Marrakech the same night. That is the main reason Agafay has become the desert most visitors to Marrakech actually see. If you are still weighing it against a multi-day trip to the dunes, read our comparison Agafay or the Sahara: which should you visit? before going further.
This guide is about choosing and booking. You will find every format we run, the real prices, what is included, how the day is timed and the traps to avoid when you compare offers from different operators.
Packs or single activities: start with this decision
A pack combines two or more experiences in one outing with a single pickup. A single activity is one experience, usually one hour long, with its own transfer.
Our advice is simple: unless you only have two hours free, choose a pack. Here is why.
- The transfer is shared across activities. You spend the same 40 to 45 minutes on the road whether you ride for one hour or spend the whole evening in the desert. A pack makes that time on the road worth it.
- The price is lower than adding up activities. A 1-hour quad ride costs €40 and a 1-hour camel ride costs €35, which makes €75. The Quad + Camel pack costs €60 for both, with mint tea and pancakes in the tent.
- The sunset is built into the timing. Evening packs are scheduled so that your ride ends at the sunset viewpoint and dinner starts as night falls.
- Dinner is only sold with an activity. The desert dinner and show are not available alone: they come with a quad ride, a camel ride or both.
Single activities still make sense in a few cases: you have a tight schedule, you only want to try one thing, or you want a specific experience such as horse riding in Agafay or a 2-seat buggy that you drive yourself.
The tour formats compared
Agafay tours fall into four time formats: half day, evening, full day and two days. The table below gathers our packs with their real prices and timings.
| Pack | Price per person | Format | Departure and return | What is included |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Quad + Camel + Dinner show | €75 | Evening, about 7 h | Pickup 4 pm, back around 11 pm | 1 h automatic quad, 1 h camel ride to the sunset viewpoint, Moroccan dinner, live Gnawa music, return transfer |
| Quad + Camel | €60 | Half day, about 4 h | 9 am or 4 pm | 1 h quad, 1 h camel ride, mint tea and pancakes, return transfer |
| Quad + Dinner show | €60 | Evening, about 7 h | Pickup 4 pm, back around 11 pm | 1 h quad at dusk, Moroccan dinner, live music and fire show, return transfer |
| Camel + Dinner show | €60 | Evening, about 7 h | Pickup 4 pm, back around 11 pm | Sunset camel ride, Moroccan dinner, live music and fire show, return transfer |
| VIP Pool Day | €120 | Full day | 9 am to about 7 pm | Infinity pool, sunbeds, towels, cold drinks, Moroccan lunch, 1 h guided quad, sunset camel ride, air-conditioned transfer |
| Imlil & Agafay in 2 days | €385 | 2 days, 1 night | 9 am departure, back around noon on day 2 | Imlil valley, argan and carpet cooperatives, sunset camel ride, dinner and night in a luxury camp (tent with bathroom), quad on day 2 |
The half day: Quad + Camel (€60)
The half-day pack is a 4-hour outing combining one hour of quad and one hour on a camel, with a tea break under the tent. It runs twice a day.
The 9 am departure is the cooler option and leaves your afternoon free for the medina. The 4 pm departure puts you on the tracks in the golden light and on the camel as the sun goes down. Both include return transfer. This is the pack we suggest to travellers who want the two key desert experiences but do not want a late night, and to families who prefer to be back before dinner.
The evening: the dinner show packs (€60 to €75)
An evening pack is a 7-hour outing, from a 4 pm pickup to a return around 11 pm, built around a sunset activity and a dinner in the desert. There are three versions:
- Quad + Camel + Dinner show (€75): the complete evening, and the one we recommend first. One hour of quad with helmet and goggles, one hour on a camel to the sunset viewpoint, then dinner in the tent with live Gnawa music.
- Quad + Dinner show (€60): for those who want speed rather than a slow caravan. One hour of quad at dusk, then dinner, live music and a fire show.
- Camel + Dinner show (€60): the calmer version, and the easiest one with children or older travellers.
Once the activity is over, you settle into the camp around 7 pm in a candle-lit nomad tent with a first glass of tea. The Moroccan dinner is served while the musicians play. The return transfer leaves for Marrakech around 9:30 to 10 pm, which puts you back at your hotel around 11 pm. More details on the evening itself are on our Agafay dinner under the stars page.

The full day: VIP Pool Day (€120)
The Pool Day is a full day in a desert camp with an infinity pool, from 9 am to about 7 pm. It includes sunbeds, towels and cold drinks, a Moroccan lunch, a one-hour guided quad ride and a camel ride at sunset, with an air-conditioned transfer both ways.
It suits travellers who want a slower day away from the noise of the medina, couples on a short break, and anyone who finds a half day too rushed. It is also the answer if you want the desert without spending the day on a vehicle: most of the day is spent resting by the water, and the activities fit around it.
Two days: Imlil & Agafay (€385)
The two-day trip combines the High Atlas and the desert. You leave Marrakech at 9 am for the Imlil valley, with stops at argan and carpet cooperatives, then reach Agafay for a sunset camel ride. Dinner and the night are spent in a luxury camp, in a tent with its own bathroom. On day 2, you ride a quad before heading back to Marrakech around noon.
It is the format for those who want to see the mountains and the desert in one go, and who want to sleep under a desert sky without the long road to the dunes. Note that the private transfer option does not apply to this pack.
Single activities, if you only want one thing
A single activity is one experience with its own return transfer. Prices are per person, except for the buggy, which is priced per 2-seat vehicle.
| Activity | Price | Riding time | Total time | Departures |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Camel ride | €35 per person | 1 h | 1 h ride, plus about 40 to 45 min of driving each way | 9 am or 4 pm |
| Quad ride | €40 per person | 1 h | About 2 h 15 hotel to hotel | 9 am or 4 pm |
| Horse riding | €100 per person | 1 h | 2 h 30 to 3 h | 9 am or 4 pm |
| Buggy, 2 hours | €150 per buggy (2 seats) | 2 h | 3 h 30 to 4 h | Pickup 3:30 pm |
| Buggy, 3 hours | €189 per buggy (2 seats) | 3 h | Longer, further into Agafay | Pickup 3:30 pm |
The automatic quad needs no licence, just a safety briefing. The buggy is different: the driver must hold a valid car driving licence. The camel ride is led by a Berber guide holding the rope, so nobody has to steer. Horse riding suits beginners and confirmed riders alike, because the guide adapts the pace to the group.
Which pack suits you
Couples
Choose Quad + Camel + Dinner show (€75). You get the thrill of the quad, the calm of the camel at sunset and a long dinner by candlelight, all in one evening. For a slower honeymoon-style day, the VIP Pool Day (€120) is the alternative. If you want a night in the desert, the two-day Imlil & Agafay trip includes a tent with its own bathroom.
Families with children
Choose Camel + Dinner show (€60) or Quad + Camel (€60) at 9 am. The rules are simple: children can ride a camel from age 5 with an adult, and quad riders must be 16 to drive alone, while younger children ride as passengers behind an adult. The evening packs finish around 11 pm, which is late for small children; in that case, the morning half day is often the wiser pick. Message us on WhatsApp if you are unsure, and we will help you choose.
Groups of friends
Choose Quad + Camel + Dinner show (€75) for the full experience, or Quad + Dinner show (€60) if half the group finds camels too slow. For groups of up to 7, the €80 private transfer means you travel together without other passengers, at a cost that drops quickly when you split it. Book 24 to 48 hours ahead: seats at dinner are limited each evening.
Thrill-seekers
Start with Quad + Dinner show (€60) if you want the evening as well, or go straight to the buggy. The 2-hour buggy ride (€150 per 2-seat buggy) follows a 15 to 20 km loop climbing to the highest ridge in the area, behind a guide on a motorbike, and comes back down at sunset. The 3-hour version (€189) goes further into Agafay. If one of you has no driving licence, the quad is the answer.
Travellers with only a few hours
Take Quad + Camel (€60) at 9 am or 4 pm. About four hours in total, two experiences, and you are back in Marrakech in time for the rest of your plans.
Timing: 9 am, 4 pm or a full day?
The 9 am departure is the cooler slot and leaves your evening free. The 4 pm departure gives you the sunset light, which is why it is the most requested, and it is the only option for the dinner packs.
Season changes the choice. Summer days in Agafay are hot and dry, with afternoon temperatures that often go well above 35 °C, so in July and August we suggest the morning slot for activities without dinner, or the 4 pm evening packs, which keep you out of the midday heat. Spring and autumn are generally the most comfortable seasons. Winter days are often mild and sunny, but nights in the desert get cold: bring a warm layer for dinner, whatever the month. Our Agafay travel tips cover clothing and practical details in more depth.
The buggy has its own timing: pickup around 3:30 pm, welcome tea at the camp, the ride, the sunset descent and a last tea, with a return to your hotel around 6:45 to 7 pm.

How booking, deposit and cancellation work
Booking takes three steps:
- Choose your pack, date and slot in the booking form. You can open it with the complete evening already selected via this link to the Quad + Camel + Dinner show pack.
- Pay the 20% deposit by card or PayPal, or pay in full.
- Receive the confirmation on WhatsApp, with the date, your pickup time and the meeting point.
The balance is paid on the day of the activity. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before; just let us know on WhatsApp. If the weather turns bad, we offer to move your outing to another day at no cost. The full rules are on our booking and cancellation terms page.
For the evening packs, book 24 to 48 hours ahead if you can. The camp has a limited number of seats each evening, and the busiest dates fill up first. For 31 December, we run a separate New Year’s Eve evening (€220 per person, one activity of your choice, festive dinner and live music until after midnight) with a single departure and its own cancellation terms, confirmed when you book.

Mistakes to avoid when comparing Agafay offers
Prices for Agafay tours vary a lot from one website to another, and most of the gap comes from what is, or is not, in the price. Before you compare two offers, check these points.
Confusing riding time with total time
“Quad tour, 2 hours” can mean two hours on the quad or two hours in total including the briefing and the tea. Our single quad ride is 1 hour of riding and about 2 h 15 hotel to hotel; our evening packs last about 7 hours, but the quad part is still one hour. Always ask how long you actually ride.
Forgetting the transfer
A low price can hide a transfer charged on top, or a meeting point somewhere in the desert that you have to reach yourself. All our products include return transport from your hotel or riad in Marrakech city. Only pickups outside Marrakech carry a supplement depending on distance.
Assuming dinner includes the show
Some “dinner in the desert” offers are a meal and nothing else. Our evening packs include live music; the Quad + Dinner and Camel + Dinner packs also include a fire show, and the complete pack includes live Gnawa music.
Reading a per-vehicle price as per person
Buggies are usually priced per vehicle. Our 2-hour buggy is €150 for a 2-seat buggy, which works out at €75 each if you ride as a pair. Compare like with like.
Ignoring age and licence rules
Showing up with a 12-year-old who expects to drive a quad alone, or a buggy driver with no licence, ends badly. Quad: 16 to drive alone. Buggy: valid car licence for the driver. Camel: from age 5 with an adult.
Booking the same day in high season
Evening seats are limited. A same-day request may still work, but you will have more choice if you book a day or two ahead.
Not checking the cancellation policy
Before paying anything, find out how much you lose if your plans change. With us, cancellation is free up to 24 hours before and bad weather means a free change of date.
Agafay or a longer desert trip?
Agafay is the right choice when you have one free afternoon or one free day in Marrakech. The large sand dunes of the Sahara, around Merzouga or Zagora, are several hundred kilometres away and need at least two or three days with long hours on the road. If dunes are your dream and you have the time, plan for them. If you want the desert, the sunset and a dinner under the stars without losing days on the road, Agafay gives you that in a single outing. For more ideas once you have chosen, see our top things to do in Agafay.
Our recommendation in one paragraph
If this is your first time in Agafay, book the Quad + Camel + Dinner show pack at €75: it covers the three experiences people come for, transfer included, in one evening from 4 pm to around 11 pm. Families with young children will be more comfortable with Camel + Dinner show or the morning Quad + Camel half day at €60. Choose the Pool Day for a slow day and the two-day Imlil & Agafay trip if you want to sleep in the desert. Then pick your date in the booking form: a 20% deposit confirms your place, and you can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before.
